Do Not Miss This Performance
Explaining The Way It Was!!!
What is the definition of the Chitlin' Circuit? The American Heritage
Dictionary has an entry for Chitlin' Circuit… "A circuit of night clubs
& theaters that feature African American performers & cater especially
to African American audiences".
In the late 50's & early 60's these tours were crucial to black artists like
Earl Lewis & The Channels, The Legendary Orioles, The Paragons, The
Velons, The Flamingos, and Sam Hawkins to name a few. This was
because there was no media coverage for these artists; the Chitlin' Circuit
was the only way to perform for their fans. As of today, the Chitlin' Circuit
is still around for our new artists such as Kimmy & Klasse'.
At the show you will see what the performers had to go through when
they were performing on the Chitlin' Circuit. They often found themselves
competing because the owner of the nightclubs & theaters would select the
best groups to return and this would keep the performers working.
Actors telling how it was: Scooter Mcgruder, Charlie Stinchcomb,
Lee Ware, Prince Cowboy, Rosie Mack, Sparky and Barbara
Washington.
